Knowledge, Understanding, and Attitudes toward Rights, Duties, and People’s Participation in the Local Administrative Affairs in Khon Kaen Province

Abstract

The purposes of this study were: 1) to study the level of people’s knowledge, understanding, and attitudes toward civic rights and duties in local administrative affairs in Khon Kaen Province; 2) to study the level of people’s participation in the local administrative affairs in Khon Kaen Province and; 3) to study the relationship between knowledge, understanding and attitudes toward civic rights and duties and level of people’s participation in the local administrative affairs in Khon Kaen province. By using quantitative research methodology with 400 samples from 7 districts in Khon Kaen province, the study found that the level of people’s knowledge and understanding toward civic rights and duties in local administrative affairs is good, the level of attitudes toward civic rights and duties in local administrative affairs is high, while the level of people’s participation in the local administrative affairs is low. In this regard, the correlation results obtained by using Pearson’s Product Moment Coefficient method at 95% confidence level (alpha = 0.05) as a criterion for accepting or rejecting the hypothesis revealed that: 1) there was no statistics relationship between level of people’s knowledge and understanding toward civic rights and duties in local administrative affairs and level of people’s participation in the local administrative affairs and; 2) there was no statistics relationship between level of attitudes toward civic rights and duties in local administrative affairs and level of people’s participation in the local administrative affairs in Khon Kean province.
