Significant aspects are as follows:

        1. The residents are mostly agriculturalists, farmers, fishermen, and merchants. Occupation used to play important role on housing, so houses are different. However, at present, due to changes in social contexts, members of each house work in different fields, so houses are not very different.

        2. Social contexts have affected forms of vernacular architecture into two aspects: vernacular architecture related to that in the central region and vernacular architecture developed through changes in social contexts.

        3. Firstly, vernacular dwelling house in Pattalung related to that in the central region, but then developed because of factors like geographical aspects, climate, construction materials, culture, and ways of life. Hence, later, dwelling has been adapted so as to go compatibly with the surroundings. The most clearly noticed example is the roof. That is, there used to be gable, but then it was replaced by hip roof, because of the monsoon. In addition, building orientation has also changed. In other words, houses which face the east with the bedroom in the south has changed in order to be compatible with circulation routes.
ER -
