Deconstruction of signs of 'time' in the S.E.A. Write Award novel “Time” by Chart Korbjitti

Abstract

This article places an emphasis on the study of meaning construction of the word "time" in 1994 S.E.A Write Award novel entitled "Time" by Chart Korbjitti. When applying Jacques Derrida's theory of "Deconstruction", the results showed that this signifier and signs that mean ‘time' carried connotative meaning. Thus, Chart Korbjitti's work not only created a new angle in terms of writing style, which was a combination of theatrical, narrative, and movie styles, but also generated meaning dimension of those signs to be fluid under the same theme. In addition, a paradox was produced.
