Generative AI Policy for Manuscript Preparation
Naresuan University Law Journal

Naresuan University Law Journal is committed to maintaining publication ethics, transparency, and academic integrity in legal studies. The following guidelines on the use of Generative AI have been established:

1. Disclosure of Use
Authors must transparently disclose the details of any Generative AI tools used in preparing the manuscript. This must be stated under the section titled **"Generative AI Declaration"** preceding the References. Authors must specify the tool/platform name, version (if applicable), purpose of use, and the specific sections of the manuscript where the tool was utilized.

2. Permitted Scope of Use
Generative AI may be used as a supporting tool for purposes such as:

1. Language editing and stylistic refinement.
2. Content summarization.
3. Translation of legal provisions or foreign documents. Authors must verify the accuracy against official source texts in all instances, as translation inaccuracies may alter legal meaning.
4. Formatting tables, legal diagrams, or legal procedure flowcharts.
5. Categorizing research data.
6. Assisting with preliminary legal research, such as identifying legal issues, locating sources, suggesting search terms, summarizing court judgments or documents, or exploring relevant counterarguments and perspectives. Results generated by AI are strictly regarded as research assistance tools and not as legal sources in themselves. Authors must personally access, verify, and evaluate primary sources before using such information or legal rules to support their analysis or conclusions.

3. Impermissible Scope of Use
Generative AI must not be used to generate the core substantive academic content of the manuscript. Specifically:

1. AI use must not substitute for substantive intellectual contributions or independent legal judgment by the author. Authors must independently develop, evaluate, and take responsibility for the substantive legal analysis, arguments, proposals, and conclusions of the manuscript.
2. Defining academic positions, final conclusions, or policy recommendations.
3. Fabricating non-existent legal provisions, court judgments, or references.
4. Inputting confidential data, personal data, restricted disclosure documents, non-public case records, or information that the author lacks authorization to process into Generative AI systems, unless backed by a lawful basis or appropriate authorization with adequate confidentiality safeguards.

4. Responsibility and Accuracy Verification
As Generative AI outputs may contain inaccuracies or hallucinated facts (AI Hallucination), authors hold direct responsibility for verifying the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of all content, legal provisions, court decisions/rulings, references, and legal discussions.

Specifically, authors must cross-check case citations and case numbers with official court databases or competent official sources in every instance prior to submission, given the high risk of Generative AI generating non-existent case names or citations.

Where Generative AI is used to assist in searching, explaining, summarizing, or analyzing law, authors must verify such information against primary sources or authoritative legal authorities before incorporating it into the manuscript.

Authors must not cite Generative AI as the source of legal rules, court judgments, or academic propositions when primary sources can be verified and cited.

If an article is found to contain inaccurate information or fabricated facts, the editorial team reserves the right to withdraw it from publication without prior notice.

5. Non-Authorship Prohibition
Generative AI cannot be credited as a "Co-Author" of a manuscript, as it lacks legal standing to hold accountability for academic content and research ethics.

6. Consequences of Non-Compliance
If post-publication checks reveal that authors failed to disclose the use of Generative AI as required or exceeded the permitted scope outlined in Section 3, the editorial board will take action under the journal's publication ethics policy. Measures may include requesting written explanations from the author, issuing a Correction, or Retracting the article, as appropriate.

7. Standard Declaration Templates
When Generative AI is used, authors should include the following declaration:

"The author(s) utilized [Tool/Platform Name] for [purpose, e.g., language editing/translation/summarizing] in [section, e.g., Abstract/Introduction]. The author(s) have verified and assume full responsibility for the accuracy of the final content."

When Generative AI is not used, authors must state:

"The author(s) did not use Generative AI in the preparation of this manuscript."

Notification of Peer Review Process

To ensure compliance with academic standards, Naresuan University Law Journal has established the Peer Review Process as follows:

1. Preliminary Screening: The Editorial Board will proceed to check for plagiarism as the first priority, before entering the review process by experts.

2. Quality Assessment Process (Peer Review): The article must pass screening and quality assessment by at least 2 qualified experts in relevant fields, and the decision must be unanimous. The reviewers consist of personnel from both within and outside the university who have no conflict of interest with the article. The evaluation is in the form of a Double-blind Peer Review (concealing the names of both the reviewers and the authors). Articles to be published must receive approval from at least 2 qualified experts according to the criteria determined by the journal.

Note: This policy is effective from now on.

The Thai-Journal Citation Index Centre (TCI) has completed its 5th round of quality assessment for academic journals included in its database. The results certify the journals' quality for a five-year period from 2025 to 2029.

Both of them will have become ISSN: 2985-2064 (Print) and ISSN: 2985-2072 (Online) since Vol. 16 No. 2 (July - December 2023), accordingly.
