Here, 9 business annual reports of the Department of Business Development, which were disseminated on the department’s website, were examined. The features of the English language versions were analyzed by using an inductive approach for a thematic analysis. The analysis of Thai-English translation strategies used a hybrid of two approaches: a deductive approach with an analysis framework involving the 8 translation strategies and the inductive approach for investigating any emerging translation strategies. The 8 translation strategies involved loan word or borrowed word, one form with a variety of meanings, one meaning with a variety of forms, addition, deletion, generalization, cultural substitution, and reformation. The findings on the features of the English language versions of the business annual reports revealed 7 issues of language use: formal language, concise and precise language, tenses in various situations, passive voice, business terms, adjectives describing non-living things, and two varieties of British and American English. The findings on the Thai-English translation strategies showed that the translation of the business annual reports was meaning-based translation. The aforesaid 8 translation strategies used as the analysis framework were employed. Moreover, an emerging translation strategy was also identified, namely maintenance, addition or deletion of quotation marks.
Supanan Prommak Copyright (c) 2024 Srinakharinwirot Research and Development Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 2024-04-30 2024-04-30 16 31, January-June 1 Article 272058 THE RATE OF SUICIDE AND FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH SUICIDAL BEHAVIORS: A CASE STUDY OF SUPHANBURI PROVINCE https://so04.tci-thaijo.org/index.php/swurd/article/view/272060
Suicide is a crucial mental health problem all over the world and the statistical trends towards the suicide rates have dramatically increased. In Thailand, Suphanburi province had held the high rate of suicide in almost every year, which the suicide rate was higher than the limit in the Department of Mental Health, Ministry of Public Health, Thailand. This retrospective descriptive research aimed to examine the suicide rate and factors related to suicidal behaviors in Suphanburi. The sample consisted of 854 cases with committed suicides, which the data were obtained from the suicide surveillance report (report 506 DS) during 2014 - 2018. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics – number, percentage, rate, average, median, maximum and minimum. Research findings revealed that the number of suicides in Suphanburi had approximately 151 - 187 people per year during that period. The average suicide rate was categorized by age and gender. The result showed that female were more likely to attempt suicide than male. The average age group was 35.98 to 38.03 years (Min = 12, Max = 94). The majority of people who attempted suicide were married, employee or labor, and lived in the city area. The completed suicide rates were 2.71 - 4.24 per 100,000. Factors related to suicidal behaviors showed that male was more likely to completed suicide than female. Moreover, attempted suicide rates were 13.54 - 18.97 per 100,000, which female has a higher rate in attempted suicide than male. Most of the cases were first time self-harm or self-injury. In cases of the repetitive deliberate self-harm behavior were mostly found within two years after previous history of self-harm, and this may cause in long-term follow-up. Hanging had been the most common method of the completed suicides, while self-poisoning or drug overdoses were founded in people with attempted suicides. The main reasons for leading cause of death by suicide were chronic diseases, HIV/AIDS, disability, intimate partner violence, being hurt by blame, depression, and unhappy love affairs or chaotic sexual relationships. These main causes of suicide were similar to the attempted group, except chronic diseases, HIV/AIDS and disability. In addition, major physical health conditions including high blood pressure, diabetes, mental disorder, paralysis, cerebrovascular disease, Poliomyelitis, HIV/AIDS and addictive substances, especially cigarettes/tobacco, alcohol, and drug abuse were represented in both groups. Findings from this study suggest that the effective development of mental health and psychiatric service network in health areas is implementation according to the development plan for health service system and management, especially improvement in the process of reporting of suicidal behaviors in the suicide surveillance report (report 506 DS). The improvement suicide monitoring includes patient referral system, public awareness of suicidal behaviors and warning signs, and prevention of suicides, especially in the first year of self-harm, along with monitoring suicidal behavior continuously within 2 years. The promotion of pro-active activities and approaches in all age groups should emphasize improving the social relationships and the contribution of problem-solving management in mental health care.
Tanin Suteeprasert Sopa Tangtekakul Supaporn Bunsiriluck Payong Sricharern Thanittha Thongnak Copyright (c) 2024 Srinakharinwirot Research and Development Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 2024-04-30 2024-04-30 16 31, January-June 1 Article 272060 DEVELOPMENT OF A GUIDELINE PROTOTYPE FOR STUDENT SUPPORT IN VOCATIOANAL EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS TO PROMOTE EMPLOYMENT OF STUDENT WITH SPECIAL NEEDS https://so04.tci-thaijo.org/index.php/swurd/article/view/272061
This present study aims to develop and propose a guideline prototype for student support that fits the context of the vocational education institutions to promote employment of students with special needs. To design the prototype, research design principle of Design Thinking (DT) was employed. The target participants included students with special needs, their parents, and personel from five vocational institutions in Thailand. The study was conducted in three phases. In phase 1, “Emphasize”, qualitative methodology was used to gather experiences of the participants. In phase 2, “Define” and “Ideate”, results of phase 1 was used to define the problems and brainstorming solution ideas with experts from related fields. In phase 3, “Prototype” and “Test”, the team analyzed the data from phase 2 and incorporated the result for prototype designing. The prototype, then, was implemented with the participants. The data were collected by face-to-face interviews with informants which were elders. After that, the data were descriptively analyzed and the analysis could be categorized into major topics and minor topics. Elders’ data then would be synthesized to correspond with the design. Guidelines for the design came from using behavioral information about changes in elders’ memories along with a method for memory enhancement in 5 areas: computation, organizing, connecting imagination or mental visualization, and mnemonic coding for the design. This led to development of memory-enhancing toys for elders which focused on entertaining play that helped rehabilitate the use of their brains and stimulated their senses. In addition, the toys should be easy to use for the senior group in order to enhance memory in these following aspects: 1. sensory nervous system, 2. enthusiasm for learning, 3. brain stimulation skills, and 4. mental and emotional conditions for learning. Results from elders’ participating in using the toy prototypes found that elders had developments and adaptations in intelligence, cognition, memory, and perception. They were interested and wanted to participate in activities. The evaluation of the memory-enhancing toy products had overall sentiment in a high level (average = 4.47). When categorized into points, it was found that computation was in a high level (average = 4.27), organizing was in the highest level (average = 4.6), connection was in the highest level (average = 4.7), imagination was in a high level (average = 4.4), and mnemonic coding was in the highest level (average = 4.6). Each toy has influence on elders, not just for providing entertainment, but each type of toys has different roles and play styles. Moreover, these toys con be used to connect with people when participating in activities.
Kanyakorn Chantarasakha Krid Wilaiolarn Copyright (c) 2024 Srinakharinwirot Research and Development Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 2024-04-30 2024-04-30 16 31, January-June 1 Article 272065 THE CAUSAL FACTORS INFLUENCING THE MATHEMATICS ORDINARY NATIONAL EDUCATIONAL TEST SCORES OF MATTHAYOMSUEKSA 3 IN SCHOOL UNDER THE SECONDARY EDUCATIONAL SERVICE AREA OFFICE LOEI NONG BUA LAM PHU https://so04.tci-thaijo.org/index.php/swurd/article/view/272067
This research aimed to 1) investigate the consistency of the causal factor model influencing the Mathematics Ordinary National Educational Test scores of Mathayomsuksa 3 in schools under the Secondary Educational Service Area Office Loei Nongbualamphu, and 2) study direct and indirect effects of the influences the Mathematics Ordinary National Educational Test scores of Mathayomsuksa 3 in schools under the Secondary Educational Service Area Office Loei Nongbualamphu. First is to study aging productivity in the service sector and second is to analyze the aging productivity in terms of demographic characteristics in the service sector of Thai private sector. By using a quantitative method and a questionnaire as a research tool, data were collected from the aging and their supervisors in 7 private companies. Most of them are in the service sector including retail, telecommunications, health care, as well as manufacturing. A number of 204 aging dataset which were able to match with their supervisors were analyzed. Productivity measurement is based on the supervisor rating, which assesses productivity from two factors; working performance and attitude. The results show that the supervisors have rated relatively higher satisfaction towards the aging’s working performance and also their attitudes, comparing to the younger colleagues in the same job positions. In terms of performance, approximate 56.9 percent of the aging have been better appraised than the younger colleagues. Nevertheless, in terms of working attitude, 68.1 percent of the aging have been much better appraised than their younger counterparts. This implies that aging productivity has a comparative advantage on their working attitude from the supervisors’ perspectives. In addition, this study incorporates demographic characteristics of the aging comprising gender, age, education, job position and skillset into analysis. The findings signify the specific skillsets which the aging hold the highest productivity, which may be the main factors of the companies’ decision to hire. The first and foremost skillset is high-level management skill and critical thinking skill which are important for job positions of manager or executive. The next skillset is communication and collaboration skill which are the core for job positions of coordinator or customer service. On the contrary, the aging is not outstanding at active learning and problem-solving skill. These skills are critical to job position required fast decision making and actively responding to the changing of customer behaviors. This is a disadvantage of the aging and may link to lower productivity of work.
Chonticha Asavanirandorn Chadatan Osatis Copyright (c) 2024 Srinakharinwirot Research and Development Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0 2024-04-30 2024-04-30 16 31, January-June 1 Article 272068 TRANSLATION STRATEGIES OF NORTHERN THAI FOOD NAMES FROM THAI INTO CHINESE https://so04.tci-thaijo.org/index.php/swurd/article/view/272080
This research article aims to 1) study the translation strategies from Thai into Chinese for Northern Thai food names and 2) to suggest guidelines to translate for Chiang Rai local food names into Chinese.
