Thematic Progression in the Announcement of the Bureau of the Royal Household Discourse Using Systemic Functional Grammar

Abstract
This paper aims to examine the thematic progression in the 36 papers of announcement delivered by the Bureau of the Royal Households discourse using systemic functional grammar (SFG). It mainly focuses on those announcements of King Rama IX being in Siriraj Hospital. The results reveal that that texts are composed by discourse organization from the beginning to the end with unity, coherence, and emphasis following the specific characteristics of discourse. The text cohere with five thematic patterns; 1) split rheme pattern; 2) reiteration or constant theme pattern; 3) zig-zag theme pattern; 4) concluding theme pattern; and 5) derived them pattern. The function of these thematic progression patterns relates to the text structure. Therefore, the text being concise, clear, formal and not complex could be delivered to the message receivers.
