Abstract

Skilled labor is a part of Thai-Melayu labor migration phenomena from the southern border provinces in Thailand border to Malaysia. This qualitative research study aims at investigating international migration of Thai-Melayu skilled labor from southern border provinces in Thailand to Malaysia, which focuses on studying of economic contributiopn of skilled migration between Malaysia and the Southern border of Thailand corridor. The research findings show that in terms of economic contribution and economic connection of skilled labor migration, the findings show that there are also results and connection from Malaysia to the Southern border provinces of Thailand. Thai-Melayu skilled expatriates’ migration is therefore not a loss of the southern border provinces of Thailand, but it is a contribution and connection between skilled migrant expatriates, southern border provinces of Thailand as original country and Malaysia as destination country

Suttiporn Bunmak is currently working as a lecturer at School of Social Sciences, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Thaksin University, Songkhla, Thailand. Suttiporn received his B.A. in Community Development from Mahasarakham University and M.A. in Social Development from National Institution Development Administration, Thailand. He received Ph.D. in Arts from University of Wollongong, Australia. Suttiporn is interested in studying Patani Malay migrant workers and the Diasporas of Patani Malay from the lower southern Thailand in Malaysia
