Developing Prathomsuksa 5 Students’ Reading Skills and Spelling Drills on Words with Final Silent Letter in the Thai Language Integrating Exercise to STAD-Cooperative Learning Method

Abstract
The purposes of the research were: 1) to study the efficiency of Prathomsuksa 5 students’ reading skills and spelling drills on words with final silent letter in the Thai language integrating exercise to STAD-cooperative learning method with an efficiency of 80/80, 2) to compare the Prathomsuksa 5 students’ learning achievement between before learning and after learning through the reading skills and spelling drills on words with final silent letter in the Thai language integrating exercise to STAD-cooperative learning method, and 3) to study the students’ satisfaction toward learning by using the reading skills and spelling drills on words with final silent letter in the Thai language integrating exercise to STAD-cooperative learning method. The sample used for the study consisted of fourty-two Prathomsuksa 5/2 students at Lukmuang Mahasarakham School under Mahasarakham Primary Educational Service Area Office 1, in the academic year 2020 by purposive sampling. The research instrument were 1) reading skills and spelling drills on words with final silent letter in the Thai language integrating exercise to STAD-cooperative learning method with the highest level of suitability 2) 6 lesson plans with 8 hours of reading skills and spelling drills on words with final silent letter in the Thai language integrating exercise to STAD-cooperative learning method with the highest level of suitability 3) a 20-item with 4 multiple – choice of achievement test with index of difficulty between 0.32 to 0.76, index of discrimination between 0.21 to 0.67 and index of reliability between 0.88 4) a 10-item with 5 - rating scale of the students’ satisfaction questionnaire towards learning with the reading skills and spelling drills on words with final silent letter in the Thai language integrating exercise to STAD-cooperative learning method with index of discrimination between 0.30 to 0.55 and index of reliability between 0.80. Data was analyzed using percentage, mean, standard deviation, E1/E2, and t-test dependent.
The research finding were as follows:
1. The efficiency of reading skills and spelling drills on words with final silent letter in the Thai language integrating exercise to STAD-cooperative learning method had an efficiency of 85.71/82.98 which met the criteria set at 80/80.
2. The Prathomsuksa 5 students’ achievement on reading skills and spelling drills on words with final silent letter in the Thai language integrating exercise to STAD-cooperative learning method after learning was higher than before statistically at the .05 level of significance.
3. The Prathomsuksa 5 students’ satisfaction towards learning by reading skills and spelling drills on words with final silent letter in the Thai language integrating exercise to STAD-cooperative learning method in the highest level on average 4.61.
