องค์ประกอบในการออกแบบสภาพแวดล้อมที่ช่วย ส่งเสริมความรู้สึกเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของชุมชน

Abstract

        ความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างการออกแบบสภาพแวดล้อมทางกายภาพและความรู้สึกเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของชุมชนมีส่วนสำคัญในการนำไปสู่การสร้างสรรค์สภาพแวดล้อมของชุมชนและเมือง เพื่อส่งเสริมความสัมพันธ์และกิจกรรมทางสังคมของกลุ่มคนที่อยู่ร่วมในสภาพแวดล้อมนั้นๆ อันจะนำไปสู่การเสริม สร้างความเข้มแข็งให้แก่ชุมชน สร้างพลังในการขับเคลื่อนชุมชน และนำพาชุมชนไปสู่ความสำเร็จได้ เนื่องจากความรู้สึกเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของชุมชนเป็นปัจจัยที่มีความสำคัญต่อสุขภาพจิตที่ดีของบุคคลทุกวัฒนธรรมและทุกช่วงวัยของชีวิต

        แนวคิดของการออกแบบชุมชนเมืองโดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งการออกแบบชุมชนละแวกบ้าน โดยใช้องค์ประกอบในการออกแบบเพื่อส่งเสริมความรู้สึกเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของชุมชนนั้นได้ถูกอ้างอิงในวัตถุประสงค์และหลักการออกแบบของลัทธิชุมชนเมืองยุคใหม่ (New Urbansim) ซึ่งนำไปสู่กระแสการออกแบบชุมชนเมืองที่ให้ความสำคัญกับพื้นที่สาธารณะและมิติทางด้านพฤติกรรมและความรู้สึกของผู้ใช้งาน โดยการอ้างอิงกับหลักการที่ว่าการออกแบบสภาพแวดล้อมเป็นการสร้างโอกาสทางกายภาพให้แก่การเกิดปฏิสัมพันธ์ทางสังคม ทั้งยังช่วยสร้างเอกลักษณ์เฉพาะให้แก่พื่้นที่ นำไปสู่ความ ประทับใจและความภูมิใจในสถานที่ ซึ่งในทางจิตวิทยาจะช่วยกระตุ้นให้เกิดความรู้สึกผูกพันกับชุมชน หรือสถานที่นั้นๆ

         องค์ประกอบในการออกแบบสภาพแวดล้อมที่ช่วยส่งเสริมความรู้สึกเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของชุมชน ได้แก่ ขอบเขตทางกายภาพที่ชัดเจน ความหนาแน่นของชุมชน ความหลากหลายและการใช้งานอย่างผสมผเส การออกแบบที่เป็นมิตรต่อการเดินเท้า และพื้นที่สาธารณะของชุมชน

Enhancing Sense of Community through Environmental Design Elements

        The relationship between environmental design and sense of community essentially leads to creation of community and urban environment that encourage social interactions and activities, and as a result, creates a strong community with motivation to drive the community to success. This is because sense of community is considered an important factor for good mental health of individuals of all cultures and ages.

        Urban design paradigm, particularly, neighborhood design which emphasizes the use of environmental design elements to enhance sense of community, is consistent with new urbanism’s design principles. Through the use of physical design guidelines and elements, new urbanism creates sense of community by encouraging neighbors to interact with one another. Careful design of physical environment, according to the new urbanist approach, will draw people out of their private realm to public and semi-public spaces, where neighbors can interact with each other. Moreover, the creation of distinctive environment in the neighborhood reinforces community identity and a sense of attachment to place.

        Physical design elements that enhance sense of community in neighborhood are well-defined neighborhood, physical density, mixed-use, pedestrian-friendly design, and public space.
