เชิงช่างทางไทย: กลวิธีแก้อากาศกิน

Abstract

คำว่า “อากาศกิน” ในวงการช่างไทย หมายถึง ปรากฏการณ์การมองเห็นวัตถุ สิ่งของ รวมทั้งสถาปัตยกรรม มีขนาดเล็กกว่าความเป็นจริง ส่งผลให้ผู้คนสัมผัสเห็นทรวดทรงองค์ประกอบของสิ่งปลูกสร้าง ไม่งดงามได้สัดส่วนเหมือนแบบที่เขียนวาดไว้

ความผิดเพี้ยนจากปรากฏการณ์อากาศกินนี้ ช่างไทยถือเอาเป็นธุระอย่างจริงจังที่จะต้องปรับแก้ เมื่อนำแบบอาคารไปปลูกสร้าง ด้วยการขยายขนาดและเพิ่มความสูงขององค์ประกอบอาคาร โดยเฉพาะในส่วนที่อยู่สูงขึ้นไป โดยอาศัยประสบการณ์และการเล็งด้วยสายตาอันแม่นยำในสถานที่จริงเป็นเครื่องมือ หากอาศัยหลักวิชาการรับรู้เป็นพื้นฐานในการอธิบายการมองเห็นสิ่งใดที่อยู่ห่างตาแล้วรับรู้ว่ามีขนาดเล็กลงกว่าความเป็นจริง เกิดจากการหลงขนาดเนื่องจากมีปัจจัยเร้าซึ่งสามารถหาสัดส่วนของขนาดที่ขาดหายไปและปรับแก้ได้ด้วยวิธีทางเรขาคณิต น่าเชื่อได้ว่าถ้าผนวกหลักเรขาคณิตกับภูมิรู้ของช่างผู้มากประสบการณ์เข้าด้วยกัน การแก้อากาศกินย่อมจักบรรลุผลโดยสมบูรณ์

Modus Operandi of Thai Builders: Correcting Perspective Distortion

There is a principle of perspective associated with visual perception of object, including architecture, making them appear smaller as they recede in the depth of field and thus distorting our perception of their proportions which as a consequence, reduces the aesthetic quality.

Thai builders resolved this problem on site as building construction progresses, base on their experience and keen discerning eye, by widening the proportions and exaggerating the height of the structure, particularly in the upper portion.

According to the theory of visual perception, objects or part of objects appear smaller with increasing distance due to the influence of certain stimuli that effects what we see. These seemingly distorted images are rectified, in a sense, by means of descriptive geometry combined with the builder’s experience and expertise to produce a more disable appearance of being well proportioned.
