Abstract
THE SIGNIFICANCE OF NORTHEAST REGION ARCHITECTURE
By Anuvit Charernsupkuł
This article is an attempt to present the history of architectural development in northeastern Thailand, which is significant for its own cultural identity, and historical context, on the national level.
The author views this development along 3 main lines as follow:
1. On the line of Davaravati civilization.
2. On the line of Khmer civilization.
3. On the line of Northeastern Thai tradition.
All these lines would develop under similar circumstances through localization of form and content transferred from outer regions such as either from central plain Maenam-Basin or Khmer, Laos in Indochina. This kind of aspiration has also been expressed in some contemporary modern architectural designs in the region as well.
