ข้อความที่มีนัยเกี่ยวโยงทางวัฒนธรรมในการแปลงานวรรณกรรมไทย: กรณีศึกษากลวิธีการแปลนวนิยายจากภาษาไทยเป็นภาษาอังกฤษของมาร์แซล บารังส์

บทคัดย่อ
กรณีศึกษานี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อจำแนกข้อความที่มีนัยเกี่ยวโยงทางวัฒนธรรมที่ปรากฎในงานวรรณกรรมไทยสองเรื่องที่แปลเป็นภาษาอังกฤษโดยมาร์แซล บารังส์ และเพื่อนำเสนอกลวิธีการแปลที่นักแปลใช้ในการถ่ายโอนข้อความที่มีนัยเกี่ยวโยงทางวัฒนธรรม ผลการศึกษาพบว่าในงานวรรณกรรมดังกล่าวปรากฎข้อความที่มีนัยเกี่ยวโยงทางวัฒนธรรมซึ่งสามารถจำแนกออกเป็น 11 ประเภท ได้แก่ 1) ข้อความที่เกี่ยวข้องกับศาสนาพุทธ ซึ่งประกอบด้วย 4 หมวดย่อย 2) นามเฉพาะ ซึ่งสามารถแบ่งเป็น 8 หมวดย่อย 3) วัตถุทางวัฒนธรรม 4) ภาษาภาพพจน์ 5) คำศัพท์เลียนเสียงธรรมชาติ 6) เพศ ซึ่งประกอบด้วย 3 หมวดย่อย 7) คำสบถ 8) ดนตรีและศิลปะ 9) สำนวนในการทักทาย 10) หน่วยวัด และ 11) ประเภทอื่น ๆ ผู้วิจัยพบว่าข้อความที่มีนัยเกี่ยวโยงทางวัฒนธรรม 4 ประเภทเป็นข้อค้นพบใหม่ ประกอบด้วย ภาษาภาพพจน์ คำศัพท์เลียนเสียงธรรมชาติ เพศ และ คำสบถ เนื่องจากข้อความกลุ่มเหล่านี้ไม่ปรากฎในการจัดหมวดหมู่ของนักวิจัยคนอื่น ๆ ที่ใช้ในกรอบแนวคิดการวิจัย ในส่วนของกลวิธีการแปล ผลการวิจัยพบว่า นักแปลใช้กลวิธีในการแปลข้อความที่มีนัยเกี่ยวโยงทางวัฒนธรรมทั้งหมด 11 กลวิธี ได้แก่ 1) การขยายความ 2) การแทนที่ทางวัฒนธรรม 3) การใช้กลวิธีร่วม 4) การใช้คำที่มีความหมายกว้าง 5) การแปลตรงตัว 6) การบอกความหมาย 7) การเขียนทับศัพท์ 8) การลดข้อความ 9) การใช้คำที่มีความหมายแคบ 10) การละไว้ไม่แปล และ 11) การเปลี่ยนความหมาย ผลการวิจัยยังชี้ให้เห็นว่านักแปลใช้กลวิธีการแปลที่เน้นสร้างความเข้าใจแก่ผู้อ่านวรรณกรรมแปล และเพื่อไม่ให้ความแปร่งทางภาษาที่เกิดจากวัฒนธรรมต้นทางมีผลกระทบต่ออรรถรสในการอ่านของผู้อ่านภาษาปลายทาง
