Role and Emotional Quotient of the Subdistrict and Village Headmen in Thungsong District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province

The purposes of this research were: 1) to identify the level of emotional quotient of the subdistrict and village headmen; 2) to study the performance according to their duties of the subdistrict and village headmen; 3) to compare the performance of duties of the subdistrict and village headmen; and 4) to study the relationship between emotional quotient and performance of the subdistrict and village headmen. The sample consisted of 124 subdistrict and village headmen in Thungsong District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. The research employed the Thai emotional quotient screening test and questionnaires. The statistical tools used were frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, F-test and Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficient. Findings are as follows. The overall mean score of emotional quotient and those on virtue, competence and happiness of the headmen were within the range of normal scores for the Thai population. The overall performance of headmen was in the high level. When considering each aspect, the governing and order maintenance aspect had the highest mean score. When comparing the performance of the headmen, it was found that differences in terms of sex, age, education and experience did not have any differences in the performance. There were strong positive relationship between emotional quotient variables and headmen’s performance and the relationships were moderate.
