Abstract

Environmental problems have grown in the 21st century partly as a result of a natural disaster crisis, including global warming, drought, flood and windstorm. The most important causes are the imbalance of natural resources consumption and the ecosystem. To solve that problem is to create a new pattern of environmental awareness behavior of people in society. The concept of Green Library was designed to support the Sustainable Development agenda by United Nations and sustainable education mission of an academic institute. However, the role of the Green Library is as a mean not only for environmental awareness but also in the lifelong learning process. The role of Green Library in supporting environmental awareness are divided into 2 types that comprise of 1) to be an environmental design feature that helps people learn how to access environmentally – friendly material and save the environment. 2) to be a knowledge base for increasing environmental awareness using the 3E principle – Empower, Engage and Energize.
