This paper studies the semantico-syntactical relation between the words /dooj/ and /dûaj/, based on historical accounts, phonetic notions, and grammaticalization theory. The words /dooj/ and /dûay/ are not related in the way that one derived from another. Although it is phonetically probable that the vowel /oo/ sound, which is a monophthong, becomes the vowel /ua/ sound, the information from language families, historical linguistics and grammaticalization theory indicates that /dooj/ and /dûay/ incidentally have similar sounds and paradigms. In fact, both words are different words. They also have their own evolution. The fact that they have semantico-syntactic overlap can happen to other word pairs.
