The Meanings and Values Reflected from the Meanings of Tai Lue Names in Phu Sang District, Phayao Province

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to study the meanings of Tai Lue names and values reflected from their meanings. Data used for analysis are 1,200 names, divided into 2 age groups : over 50 and between 1-40 years old, collected from Phu Sang District, Phayao province. The results of the analysis show that the meanings of Tai Lue names can be classified into 13 groups. The most popular meaning for the over 50 age group is related to treasure. The most popular meaning for those aged between 1-40 is auspiciousness and prosperity. The above findings reflect the values and the simple way of life of the Tai Lue people.
