Academics, students and librarians' perceptions of information literacy : comparison study
Keywords:
Information literacy, Information competency, Information skills, Higher Education, Information literacy standard, Information literacy perceptionAbstract
This article introduces the definition, importance, and movements of information literacy taken places in several countries. It presents the information literacy standards and model which are used as frameworks for teaching, learning and assessing students' information literacy. It also compares the librarians' perceptions of information literacy which are reflected from the frameworks, with academics' and students' perceptions of information literacy which are derived from research studies. Since there are differences in the perceptions, this article concludes with a suggestion on establishing effective collaborative partnerships between librarians who teach information literacy, and academics and students who are the key people in teaching and learning.
