The Cambodian Lifestyle Reflected in Cambodian Proverbs

Abstract

A proverb is a kind of linguistic culture created by previous generations, from their knowledge and experience, to teach their descendants to behave properly to the social norms. Proverbs not only have a didactic role, but also reflect the way of life of the people who wrote them from their experiences and the environment. Such reflection rarely exists in historical records or chronicles.

The Cambodian proverbs used in this study were collected from books, journals and field data. The aim of this article is to present the various ways of life of the Cambodians reflected in the proverbs.
