The Potential of Ecotourism along the Prachachom-cheun Canal and Bang Nangli Canal

Abstract

The objective of this study is to investigate the local context and the tourist attractions along the Prachachom-cheun Canal and Bang Nangli Canal in order to develop eco-tourism potential along this canal. This area was chosen because it displays diverse natural and cultural tourist attractions. The research focused on the participation of the community in order to create a tourist attraction plan in the region. The subjects of this study include local people, the leader of the community, local entrepreneurs and tourists. Data were collected from documents, a field study, interviews, and observations. An eco-tour was then arranged for tourists to the designated places. Questionnaires were completed by the tourists. The results showed that the focused area has a unique identity, in terms of the prosperity of the mangrove forest ecosystem, historic site, and traditional way of life. These factors contribute to the formulation of a tourist attraction plan. Therefore, sustainable eco-tourism can be developed in this area.
