Conceptual Metaphors of Anger in Thai

Abstract

This article aims at analyzing the conceptual Metaphors of Anger in Thai language and the conceptual system of Thai people in selected Thai novels published during 1999–2003. The results of this study are as follows: there are 12 kinds of conceptual metaphors of Anger in Thai language; Heat, Fluid, Human, Animal, Plant, Color, Food, Illness, Resource, Natural Phenomenon, War and Material metaphors. The conceptual systems of Thai people are reflected in these conceptual metaphors by the process of Semantic Mappings between source domain and target domain of meanings, The process consists of Ontological and Epistemic Correspondences. Besides, it is found that the fundamental basis of Thai concepts of Anger is from bodily, social and cultural experiences.
