Translation of Der Tod in Venedig from German to Thai Der Tod in Venedig or Death in Venice is a novella written by Thomas Mann, a German novelist who won a Nobel-prize in Literature in 1929. Thomas Mann's style of writing is unique in the way that his sentences are very long with a lot of clauses, which is hard to understand for the foreigners who study German.
This article presents a synopsis of Der Tod in Venedig and its theme on the philosophy of art, and discusses the translation problems on sentence structures, Thomas Mann's writing style as well as the allusions to characters in Greek mythology and Greek philosophers. European cultural and historical background and the philosophical interpretation are also provided.
