Abstract

Medieval English literature is the starting point of the history of English literature. Nearly all of the English literary works written during the Middle Ages were influenced by Christianity because people’s belief and ways of life in England and Europe during the medieval period were dominated by Christianity and the Catholic Church.  This article aims to present the influence of Christianity upon the creation of many literary works in the Middle Ages. The influence of Christianity upon medieval English literature can also be seen through the clergymen’s role as composers of literary works. Moreover, a great deal of English literary works in the Medieval Ages were still intended to disseminate the religious teachings and beliefs as well as to inform the public of the history of Christianity through dissemination of these works.
