Abstract

Composed with the best intentions, Sam Krung is the last piece of writing by H.H. Prince Bidyalankarana. One of the most outstanding characteristics of this work is the form of poetry used to deliver the story. This article aims to study the characteristics of poetic form in Sam Krung. The distinguishing features of poetic form in this piece lie in a combination of traditional conventions and the creation of his own style: choosing types of prosody and creating a melody of the poems by emphasizing the rhymes prescribed in each type of prosody, imitating words in ancient literature, coining words, and using his own literary style with the intention of doing a parody of rhetorical conventions in previous literary works in order to add novelty to the writing. These characteristics make the form of poetry in Sam Krung distinctive and different from poetry of earlier times.
