Development of Life and Career Skills Indicators in the 21st Century of Junior High School Students Under the Secondary Educational Service area Office 22

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to develop the indicators on life and career skills in the 21st century of lower secondary students under the Secondary Educational Service Area Office 22 and to examine the construct validity of of the developed model with empirical data. The study was conducted in 2 phases. The first phase was the indicator development by analyzing relevant documents and research studies and interviewing 5 experts. The second phase was validity examination between the developed hypothesis indicators with empirical data. The samples consisted of 447 teachers from which the data was collected from. The research tool employed was a 5-level rating scale questionnaires with IOC between .80 - .100, overall reliability value at .99, and discrimination value between .21 - .96. The collected data was analyzed using SPSS and LISREL software. The result of this study was as follows:

1. Life and career skills in the 21st century of lower secondary students under the Secondary Educational Service Area Office 22 comprised 5 main components, 15 sub-components and 117 indicators. There are 19 indicators on flexibility and adaptability, 24 indicators on initiatives and self-direction, 24 indicators on social and cross-cultural aspects, 26 indicators on leadership and responsibility, and 24 indicators on productivity and accountability.
2. The life and career skills model structure in 21s century of junior high school students under the secondary educational service area office 22 was related to empirical data on chi-sguare:17.83 without statistical significance, df=28, Goodness of Fit lndex GFI = .99, Adjusted Goodness of Fit lndex AGFI = 0.98 and Root Mean Square Error of Approximation RMSEA = .00 (Chi-Square = 17.83, df = 28, P-value = .93, RMSEA = .00).
