A Study of Subjects and Roles of Ancestor Spirit in Tambol Tha Muang, Selaphum district, Roi Et Province

Abstract

Believing in ancestor spirit has been along with E-san society for a long time which is inherited up to the present time undeniably. The study explored subjects and roles of ancestor spirit in Tambol Tha Muang, Selaphum district, Roi Et Province. It purposes to examine such issues about ceremonies for ancestor spirit which respectively consists of 4 types; propitiating ancestor spirit ceremony, casting lots, vowing, and blessing wishing. These 4 ceremonies require a ritual leader to entirely perform a ceremony. Roles of ancestor spirit can be divided into 3 points which are an individual role, a family role, and a social role. These roles reduce villagers’ frustration and fulfill their life perfection as well as an agriculture career which is the main duty of E-San people.
