Abstract

"Road to world heritage" campaign for conservation and development of natural and cultural heritage sites is regarded as a World Heritage nomination process which is a key to raising awareness and encouraging participation. It also emphasizes the involvement of local people in the nomination process for the World Heritage Site, which is a crucial part and needs a lot of support from local people by providing local community responsibility to maintain natural and cultural assets in cooperation with its State Parties. Besides, when considering the whole country’s campaign at the national level, each different campaign has a different goal and that has made different circumstances. However, the most interesting part is the local movement to deal with heritage values of both natural and cultural sites over modern economic and social needs, together with the power of network that helped make the campaign successful.

This research aims at studying and analyzing movements and phenomena "Road to the World Heritage" in Thailand to explore the lesson learned from factors, conditions, and phenomena of local processes in pushing heritage resources to nominate in World Heritage List. The result will lead to national strategic and operational planning that is linked to local communities-driven issues. Besides, this also helps to prepare a nomination dossier for being considered as a natural and cultural world heritage site by comparing both macro and microscale through the academic references to create a systematic and reliable knowledge leading to the action plans to create a continuous and sustain "Road to World Heritage" campaign in various places.
