Broadcasting is an entity which is vital to the economic and social development of both national and local. It influences the thoughts and behavior of people in the cultural well-being economic and social. The first Thailand Broadcasting Master Plan (2012-2016), transition from analogue to digital broadcasting is one of seven strategies. This strategy emphases the transition to digital audio broadcasting and television broadcasting transmission to ensure efficient use of radio frequencies and providing digital Broadcasting services as a universal services.
Digital radio broadcasting technology have been developed to enhance sound broadcasting to provide better sound quality and more efficiently use of radio frequency as well as reduce noise interference and can be deployed as national and regional level with introducing new services such as text scrolling, image, slide show and also can be applied for providing Emergency Warning System (EWS), traffic information service and advertising service.
This article summarizes the digitial radio broadcasting technology and services including the international country case studies on implementating the digital radio broadcasting Services. It would be useful for stakeholders in broadcasting industry and others to support on the development to launch digital radio broadcasting service in Thailand.
