Code-Switching of a Filipino Teacher who Taught Thai Students at a Bilingual School

Abstract

This research examines code-switching between English and Thai of a Filipino teacher who taught Thai students at bilingual school. The objectives of this research were to study the types and functions of code-switching from English to Thai of a Filipino teacher at a bilingual school who taught the students in Matthayomsuksa 4 and 5 of Mini-Program and Bilingual Program in English Second Language subject with using English in teaching process. The data were collected by recorded observation of sample groups. The results are shown in percentages. The results showed three types of code-switching. The tag switching was found the most frequently while intrasentential switching was the least. This study has also found five functions of code switching; reiteration, message qualification, other functions, interjections
