Effects of Project-based and Research-based Learning on the Ability in Doing Science Projects and Self-esteem of Tenth Grade Students

Abstract

The purposes of this study were 1) to study ability in doing science project of project-based and research-based learning in additional science courses for upper secondary students; and 2) to study self-esteem of project-based and research-based learning in additional science courses for upper secondary students. The samples consisted of twenty seven tenth grade students in the second semester of the 2016 academic year at Khokcharoenwittaya school. The sample in this study was selected by purposive sampling. The instruments used in this research included 1) the lesson plans; 2) the evaluation forms on their ability in doing science project; and 3) the self-esteem test. The results of this study were as follows: students who learned through project-based and research-based learning demonstrated had mean scores of science project ability which were higher than before the criteria (60%) at a .01 level of significance. In addition, the students who learned through project-based and research-based learning had mean scores of self-esteem which were higher than before the criteria (high level) of a .01 levels of significance respectively.
