Ratanakosin Literature Study

Abstract

Pot is a common cooking tool which has been used by the Thais for a very long time. Due to its important elements in the Thai cuisine, a pot can be molded from different materials depending on demographics. Culture, values and practices also influence the designs. This article aims to comprehend the reflection and the importance of a pot in Thai cultures and how it has played a role in 10 Thai literatures which were written during Ratanakosin period between Rama I and Rama V. From the collective studies, a pot has been an important element to five Thai cultural aspects : the materials and utilities, the beauty, the comparative languages, the male and female characteristics and the time. This study also reflected cultural materials and thoughts of the Thais through literatures.
