Abstract

This article, utilized information from the research entitled Researching the Community Participation for Development of the Marketplace in Nakhon Pathom Municipality, presents some knowledge of periodic and permanent market, the rational of the research topic, and the research methodology.

The article indicates that the periodic market and permanent market are interdependent. Actually, periodic market support the permanent market to function completely ; for example the expansion of the permanent market to the city area is limited while periodic market is not. Furthermore, permanent market is materially and spiritually valuable as it brings the economic linkage to periodic market and the other sectors. So, the survival of the marketplace must develop related to the modern life.

In addition, trading in the marketplace performs the self-sufficiency economy, like interdependence, small-scale enterprise, and free entry. Thus, the policy and the measure of the government to develop the marketplace need to rehabilitate the social structure and change the attitude that the marketplace is adaptable and brings the economic linkage. The government's measures to manipulate or remove the marketplace are therefore proved to be failure. On the contrary, it should be supported to survive by considering the participation of the stakeholders and conducted the law of fair competition between the marketplace and large-scale retailing enterprises.
