English Reading Comprehension and Schema Theory

Schema theory is widely accepted as playing an important role in English reading comprehension. Reading is a process in which the reader constructs meaning through the dynamic interaction of the reader's prior knowledge, the text, and the context of the situation. Schemata includes the reader's concepts, feelings, attitudes, beliefs, and everything from past experiences that are used in making sense of reading.
