Abstract

This mixed-methods study examined the digital, professional, and personal competencies of SME accounting professionals influencing accounting operational efficiency and proposed a development model. Quantitatively, 386 respondents were surveyed (determined by the Taro Yamane formula, N=10,947) via convenience and snowball sampling. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, multiple correlation, and multiple regression analysis. Qualitatively, data were collected from 15 key informants using explanatory content analysis. Quantitative results identified 10 variables with a significant positive influence: organizational management (b=0.433, p<.001), cognitive skills (b=0.343, p<.001), communication (b=0.382, p<.001), data analysis (b=0.254, p<.001), data management (b=0.250, p<.001), digital application (b=0.106, p=.031), creative thinking (b=0.076, p=.023), objectivity (b=0.379, p<.001), transparency (b=0.259, p<.001), and integrity (b=0.245, p<.001). Qualitative findings confirmed that digital-era accountants must holistically integrate these competencies. By leveraging AI and cloud accounting as assistants, alongside professional ethics and strategic communication to transform data into high-value management reports, accountants can elevate their role to business advisors and enhance efficiency within shifting business dynamics.
