Abstract

This research aims to study the key success factors in the operation of the elderly club and the motivation of the elders to join Ban Nong Luang elderly club, Umphang District, Tak Province. This research is a qualitative research using semi-structured interviews. Data were collected using the participatory observation methods and in-depth interviews with the administrators and staff of Nong Luang Subdistrict Administrative Organization, executive committee and member of the club, staff at Nong Luang Health Promoting Hospital, and voluntary staff from Ban Nong Luang, the total is 16 people. The researcher performed the examination of the completeness and accuracy of the data triangulation in terms of method analysis and concluded the study, and presented in the descriptive format. The results showed that the operation of the club consists of 7 steps as follows: 1.) Activity planning by organizing the committee meetings on a monthly basis. 2.) Organization arranges by having the clear structure of the organization and the assignment of the 6 departments, which are the Subdistrict hospital, Subdistrict Administrative Organizations, voluntary staff, the elderly club, Administrators, and the community police. 3.) Arrange the suitable number of staff. 4.) The administrator has direct order and coordinate with the various departments to accomplish the operation. 5.) Coordinate with both among the internal departments and external agencies. 6.) Verbal reports the performance on a monthly basis. And 7.) Budget management for both the budgets from Subdistrict Administrative Organization and from within the club itself. The success of the operation of Ban Nong Luang elderly club is from the 4 factors as follows: 1.) Club leaders have leadership skill with ethics and volunteering spirit that focus on the benefits of the elderly. 2.) The ability to be self-reliant by seeking the fund to support various activities within the club. 3.) The ability to coordinate with the other parties by collaborating between the government agencies, local community and social sectors. 4.) Operate the organization under the regulations. For the motivation to join the club, it comes from the 4 internal factors which include interest, desire, favor, and feeling of the self-valued. The motivation from the 4 external factors include the health check services, activities that meet the needs, consumer goods supporting, and social acceptance. The results of this study can be used to improve the operations to maximize the benefits and efficiency, and the related organizations in support would be able to create the development opportunities for the elderly club. In addition, the other elderly clubs can also apply these findings to the operations of their clubs as well.
