Abstract

The research studies the development of instructional manual of English for the monks and novices because learning and teaching English language in the General Education Section of PhraPariyattidhamma Schools does not develop potentiality of the students with the policy of National Education Act B.E. 2542 (1999) and Amendments (Second National Education Act B.E. 2545 (2002). The students do not apply the English language to use in daily life or higher education. So the researchers are interested the developing of instructional manual of English for the monks and novices. The objectives of the study are 1) to develop the instructional manual of English for the monks and novices 2) to study the efficiency of instructional manual of English for the monks and novices 3) to study the effectiveness of instructional manual of English for the monks and novices. This study is the Mixed Methods Research such as documentary research, quantitative research, qualitative research and action research using data collecting and analyzing by the monks living in 25 temples. The population in the study are 320 people. The research results are found that 1) The development of the instructional manual of English for the monks and novices is found that the process of developing the instructional manual of English for the monks and novices is (1) surveying the level of English language of students (2) making the model of the instructional manual of English cultural tourist for the monks and novices (3) the content of the instructional manual of English cultural tourist consisting of religious, tradition of the community (4) difficulty and easiness of the media for teaching being suited for the learners (5) the language is easy and correct no making the learners confusing. The result of the instructional manual of English for the monks and novices is found that the agreement of monks and novices is in the average at 4.39 which is at the high level 2) To study the efficiency of instructional manual of English for the monks and novices is in the average at 4.39 which is at the high level. 3) To study the effectiveness of instructional manual of English for the monks and novices and result of comparation of the achievement of the students by pre-test and post-test of using instructional manual of English for the monks and novices is found that monks and novices in the General Education Section of PhraPariyattidhamma Schools having the result of testing after participating of training in the first time (evaluation after training)  = 16.68 S.D. = 1.14) and the second time (evaluation after one week from the first time) ( = 18.52 S.D. = 0.76) is higher than before participating training ( = 8.28 S.D. = 1.14). So monks and novices in the General Education Section of PhraPariyattidhamma Schools having the result of testing before and after using instructional manual of English for the monks and novices is different statistically significant at the 0.05 level.
