The Development of Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) Lessons Along With Gamification for Developing Scientific Concept On The Topic of Immune System for Pre-Service Science Teachers

Abstract

The objectives of this study were: 1) to develop and find out the effectiveness  of computer-assisted instruction (CAI) lessons along with gamification on the topic of the Immune system, 2) to improve a scientific concept on the Immune system, and 3) to study the motivation of the pre-service science teachers towards learning management by using computer-assisted instruction lessons with gamification. The population was 46 second-year pre-service science teachers in General Science, Faculty of Education, Pibulsongkram Rajabhat University, Muang District, Phitsanulok, obtained by purposive sampling. The sample consisted of the 23 second-year student teachers studying Biological Science on the topic of Immune System, group 2, in the first semester of the academic year 2021. The results were as follows: 1) Computer-Assisted Instruction (CAI) lessons and gamification on the topic of the Immune system were effective at 80.15/83.35, higher than the standard of 80/80. 2) After using CAI teaching  about the Immune system, the pre-service science teachers further understood the scientific concept and the mean of post-test was higher than pre-test. The pre-test was 5.24, and the post-test  was 33.80. Overall, their understanding of scientific concept was increasing, whereas misunderstanding of them was decreasing, and 3) The motivation of pre-service science teachers towards learning management using the Computer-Assisted Instruction (CAI) lessons with gamification on the topic of the Immune system was at a high level with an average of 3.78.
