Communication is the key to convey, exchange the information, needs and feelings from the sender to the receiver in order to generate ideas, change behavior or to do as needed. This is especially important in political communication, where the objective is to persuade the public to choose oneself for a local leadership position. This article aims to study the communication characteristics of local leaders, who are desired by the people. Such local leaders should possess various qualities, including intelligence, knowledge, problem-solving skills, abilities, social reputation, trustworthiness, and the ability to influence others in decision-making. They should also have confidence, courage, adaptability, positive thinking, creative thinking, curiosity, and resilience. Additionally, they should possess virtues such as honesty, integrity, straightforwardness, justice, and the ability to maintain the benefits of those under their authority. Furthermore, there should be communication to the public, and those under their authority should be aware and informed of these desired characteristics, conveyed through appropriate communication channels and choosing content that resonates with the listeners. Only then will they be accepted as authentic leaders, leading to trust and fostering cooperation from all sectors. Since working in a local leadership position requires taking responsibility for administration, giving orders, and, most importantly, coordinating efforts to achieve objectives and goals, having communication skills is crucial. These skills enable leaders to effectively communicate with those under their authority, ensuring that they carry out their assigned tasks wholeheartedly, as well as communicate with the public to gain acceptance and establish a trusted relationship. This is essential in driving the progress and development of the locality.
