AN APPICATION OF THE JATAKA TALES FOR INFORCEMENT OF DHAMMA TO SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS OF WATSUKAKHON SCHOOL, MUEANG SAMUTPRAKAN DISTRICT, SAMUTPRAKAN PROVINCE

Abstract

The objectives of this thesis were; 1) to study the state of teaching and learning Jataka tales of secondary school students of Watsukakhon School, Mueang District, Samutparkan Province, 2) to analyze the results of the application of virtues obtained from Jataka tales learning in daily life application of secondary school students of Watsukakhon School, Mueang District, Samutparkan Province, and 3) to analyze the results of virtue or non-virtue application in real life situations and fables of secondary school students of Watsukakhon School, Mueang District, Samutparkan  Province. The data of this qualitative research were obtained by non-participant observation and in-depth interview. 

The results of the study found that:

1. Learner-centered-leaning management placed a focus on implanting and reinforcing the desirable characteristics of learners, knowledge, virtue and good value from inside of oneself. Learners could think, analyze and solve problems from their experiences through their practice resulting to their skills and lead to application in living a happy life with others in society.

2. The results of learning Tatira Jataka, Amba Jataka and Mittavindu Jataka could lead students to understand the values of paying respect, gratitude, and obedience to thier parents and the elderly. The results of learning Rajovada Jataka, Nandivisala Jataka and Suvannahamsa Jataka could make students know how to control their physical, verbal and mental actions, and see the value of non-greed.

3. The results of teaching and learning 6 Jataka tales indicated that students understood and realized the significance of application of virtue and morality in living a life, gratitude, respect, and obedience in the teaching of their parents and the elderly. Students also could improve their verbal expressions, understand appropriateness, control their desire, have the feeling of non-violence, and could behave themselves as the exemplary to the others.
