A STUDY OF THE FIVE PRECEPTS BASED ACTIVITIES IN PROMOTING DESIRABLE CHARACTERISTICS OF TEACHERS IN SUWANNARAM WITTAYAKHOM SCHOOL, BANGKOK NOI DISTRICT, BANGKOK

Abstract

The purposes of this research were: 1) to study the state of the 5 precepts based activities in promoting desirable characteristics of teachers in Suwannaram Witthayakhom School in Bangkok Noi district of Bangkok, 2) to compare the arrangement of the 5 precepts based activities in promoting desirable characteristics of teachers in Suwannaram Witthayakhom School, and 3) to propose guidelines for the arrangement of the 5 precepts based activities in promoting desirable characteristics of teachers in Suwannaram Witthayakhom School. The mixed research methodology was used in the study. The data were collected by questionnaire from 89 teachers of Suwanaram Witthayakhom school and analyzed by means, standard deviation, F-test method, and One-way ANOVA. 

The results of the study showed that: The state of the 5 precepts based activities in promoting desirable characteristics of teachers in Suwannaram Witthayakhom School in 5 aspects was at a high level. In aspects, the highest level was on abstaining from taking intoxicants, followed by abstaining from killing, stealing, telling a lie, and sexual misconduct respectively. In comparison, the subjects with different genders, ages and educational backgrounds had opinions towards the arrangement of the 5 precepts based activities in promoting desirable characteristics of teachers in Suwannaram Witthayakhom School indifferently with statistical significant figure at 0.05, rejecting the research hypothesis.

The proposed guidelines for the arrangement of the 5 precepts based activities in promoting desirable characteristics of teachers in Suwannaram Witthayakhom School sorting from the high level to the low level as follows; exhibition arrangement, love and unity building activities of students, sharing and generosity promoting activities, honour and honest system building, discipline, rules and regulations promoting, penalty in violation the third precept,   activities for good conduct in word, to encourage teachers to express ideas and opinions freely for the school administration improvement, and no smoking campaign in school.
