A Study of Organizing Activities to Promote Volunteer Spirit of Secondary School Students in Chomthong District of Bangkok

Abstract

Objectives of the study included 1) to study the activity organization to promote secondary school students’ volunteer spirit in Chom Thong district of Bangkok; 2) to compare the activity organization to promote secondary school students’ volunteer spirit in Chom Thong district of Bangkok; and 3) to propose guidelines for the activity organization to promote secondary school students’ volunteer spirit in Chom Thong district of Bangkok. The study was a mixed method between a quantitative research and qualitative one in nature. A questionnaire was used for collecting quantitative data from a sample of 355 secondary school students, and a Schedule Interview was used to collect qualitative data from 5 experts. Statistics including Mean and Standard Deviation, F-test, and One-way ANOVA was used for analyzing quantitative data and a content analysis for qualitative data.

The results of the study found that:

1. 1. With regard to the activity organization to promote secondary school students’ volunteer spirit in Chom Thong district of Bangkok it found that in general students’ opinion on all 5 aspects was high, while considering each item the aspects with average high values including the health promotion, environment development in the school and nearby sites, and school waste management work respectively, and one with the lowest average value was a learning development support.
2. 2. In respect of the comparison of the activity organization to promote secondary school students’ volunteer spirit in Chom Thong district of Bangkok classified by grade levels it found that the opinion degree on the activity organization to promote secondary school students’ volunteer spirit in general was different at the statistical significance level of 0.05.
3. 3. Regarding the proposal of guidelines for the activity organization to promote secondary school students’ volunteer spirit in Chom Thong district of Bangkok it revealed that for an environment development in the school and nearby sites students were assigned to clean the classroom providing a waste bin, promoted students to solve the problem correctly, for a honesty cultivation  they were assigned to learn to realize self-honesty, the honesty of friends, parents and school, for the health promotion they were promoted to understand how to have a good health in collaboration with the community to promote the common sense of peacefully living together  with others in the school and society.
