Ethical Concepts in Postmodernism

Abstract

The objectives of the research entitled “Ethical Concepts in Postmodernism”  were as follows: 1) to study Ethics, 2) to study Postmodernism, 3) to analyze ethical concepts in Postmodernism, and 4) to criticize ethical concepts in Postmodernism. This qualitative research was conducted as Documentary Research by applying both primary and secondary sources concerning Ethics and Postmodernism. Then, the data were analyzed and criticized in style of Critical Description to formulate conceptual framework, on the basis of Normative Ethics.

            The results of the research were found that:

            The problems emerging in Modernism was the crisis of human value. It is required that virtue ethics, embedded in a human body, must be proposed to solve the problems. It is comprised of:

            1) “Virtue of Character” is the awareness of human as value of metaphysic identity. As of this, an existence must create essence by endowed freedom in connection with others in the world for the purpose of authentic existence manifestation in the first place, including the awareness of humanly specific genies in the second place, and in the final place, human ways of spiritual being in 3 aspects such as (1) search for truth of human, (2) search for meanings of life, and (3) search for meaning of living.      

            2) Practical Wisdom is the awareness of society as value of spacio-ethics in which humans must live as space of interdependence and respect the scope of mutual freedom.

            3) Flourishing Happiness is the awareness of science as value of epistemological instrument. This demonstrates that scientific epistemology has been developing with long-formulation to advance human lives only, so the application of entity of science requires greatness of ethical care.

          For that reason, once the previous Modernism society confronted with the “Crisis of Human Value”, “Virtue Ethics” must be educated into the current Postmodernism society so as to foster mutual habitation with real blessing
