Abstract

This documentary research focuses on several issues related to marijuana, such as medical use, recreation, consciousness enhancement and legal issues. However, this paper presents the results of a study on the consciousness enhancement caused by cannabis use.

The normal human mind is forged to accept rationality, as the result of scientific reasoning and the concept of utilitarianism, that limits the frame of mind. Mindful and purposeful use of cannabis to enhance consciousness is able to release the rational suppressed mind and create imagination, new perspectives and ideas. As a consequence, immortal works are created in poetry, music, novels, and etc. Philosophers can solve intellectual puzzles and scientists can also create new ideas and perspectives.

Not every creativity generated by cannabis use is infallible wisdom; on the contrary, every idea that arises should be examined, critically criticized and only some ideas can be attributed to knowledge and understanding when the mind is in normal state. The point is that some of these 'thoughts' cannot be discovered in the normal state of mind.

Criticism of the idea that creativity which arises while intoxicated with marijuana is illogical or insanity. It is a fallacy because it criticizes the origin of the idea but not assesses the validity of that idea.

From the study, it can be concluded that the optimal and aimful use of cannabis to enhance consciousness can create new ideas and bring about intellectual advancement.
