The Study of Accommodation for Elderly Tourists

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to establish a review of the accommodations particularly for elderly tourists focusing on the availability of health facilities in various tourist attractions in Thailand. In Samut Songkhram province, a total of 27 hotels and resorts selected through purposive sampling voluntarily participated in this study. Data collection was conducted using general hotel questionnaires and standard inspection and evaluation of hotel facilities, as well as safety and health services provided for elderly tourists. Statistics used to analyze data include frequency ​​and percentage.

The results revealed that 100% of the respondents are ready and able to provide standardized hotel services. However, it was found that only 44.44% of the establishments had restrooms with non-slip and even-leveled floors, and only 40.74% were equipped with shower seats with stable backrests and handrails. Furthermore, the study showed that only 18.51% had support rails installed from the door to the toilet as well as shower seats. With regard to safety, a large number of the respondents meet the standards. However, some improvements are needed; 100% are not equipped with automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and 40.74% do not have emergency alert systems. Equally, 40.74% do not provide standardized safety training and fire protection and prevention for hotel staff.
