Abstract

Container shipping is an important part of the country’s logistics and trade system, in which operators face pressures from competition, operational complexity, human resource management, and constraints related to cost and time. This research aimed to study the levels of business competition, value chain, human resource management, and container shipping efficiency in Thailand. The study employed a quantitative research approach using a survey method. The sample consisted of 340 container shipping operators. The research instrument was a questionnaire, yielding a Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of 0.987. The data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The results revealed that human resource management was overall at a high level and had the highest mean (X̄ = 3.81, S.D. = 0.64), with compensation having the highest mean. Container shipping efficiency was also at a high level (X̄ = 3.77, S.D. = 0.67), with quality having the highest mean. Business competition was at a high level (X̄ = 3.74, S.D. = 0.70), with customer power having the highest mean. The value chain was at a high level (X̄ = 3.71, S.D. = 0.65), with marketing and sales having the highest mean. Meanwhile, cost, operations, and training had lower means than the other dimensions within their respective variables. The findings can be used as information for improving cost management, operational processes, personnel development, and customer responsiveness among container shipping operators.
