Abstract

This research aimed to 1) study the levels of motivation factors, hygiene factors, and job burnout among civil servants of the Land Development Department (Central Office); 2) compare the levels of job burnout classified by personal factors; and 3) examine the relationships between motivation factors and hygiene factors and job burnout. This research employed a quantitative research design. The sample consisted of 211 civil servants of the Land Development Department (Central Office). The research instrument was a questionnaire with a Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of .707. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, one-way analysis of variance, and Pearson’s correlation coefficient. The research findings revealed that: 1) the overall level of motivation factors was high (X̄ = 4.07, S.D. = 0.61), with achievement having the highest mean score. The overall level of hygiene factors was also high (X̄ = 4.02, S.D. = 0.62), with relationships with coworkers having the highest mean score. The overall level of job burnout was low (X̄ = 2.45, S.D. = 0.99); however, exhaustion and reduced work energy were at a moderate level. 2) The comparison according to personal factors showed that civil servants with different sex and organizational affiliations had significantly different levels of job burnout at the .05 level. 3) Regarding the relationships among the variables, all dimensions of motivation factors and hygiene factors were significantly negatively correlated with job burnout. Advancement had the strongest correlation with job burnout among the motivation factors (r = -0.461,                p < .001), while relationships with coworkers had the strongest correlation with job burnout among the hygiene factors (r = -0.454, p < .001).
