The Effects of Using a 5-Color Letter Package on Developing Thai Diphthong Reading Skills for Primary School Students in Non-Formal and Informal Education in Nong Chik District, Pattani Province

Abstract

The aims of this research were: 1) to compare the Thai diphthong reading skills before and after using the 5-color letter package; and 2) to study the satisfaction towards learning using the 5-color letter package for primary school students in non-formal and informal education, Nong Chik District, Pattani Province. The sample group consisted of 15 primary school students in non-formal and informal education in Nong Chik District, Pattani Province, in the first semester of the 2023 academic year, and they were selected using simple random sampling. The research instruments were lesson plans, a 5-color letter package, reading skills exercises, and a student satisfaction questionnaire. The statistics used for data analysis were the mean, standard deviation, and paired sample t-test. The results found that: 1) The students’ Thai diphthong reading skills in Thai subject were 13.00 before the study, with a standard deviation of 4.21, and after the study were 28.20, with a standard deviation of 2.37. In summary, they were statistically higher than before the study at the significance level of .01. and 2) The overall student satisfaction had a mean score of 4.15 with a standard deviation of 0.19, which was appropriate at the highest level.
