Convention, International Covenant, and related Laws to Social Welfare for People with Disabilities in Thailand

Abstract

People with disabilities are a worldwide phenomenon with more than 2 billion people, accounting for 37.5% of the world's population. While in Thailand, as of March 2021, there are more than 2 million people with all types of disabilities. The United Nations has released the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities since 2008. The CRPD is an international human rights law that promotes, ensures human rights, fundamental freedoms, promoting respect for inherent dignity, the full effective participation of people with disabilities in society, and respecting the rights of children with disabilities to preserve their identities.

Thailand ratified the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities on July 29, 2008, forcing the government to pay more attention to respect for the rights of people with disabilities. In addition, Thailand has a leader of persons with disabilities to serve as the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities to mobilize the dimension of persons with disabilities in all aspects as well as the protection of human rights and promoting women's roles to drive further implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
