The THE IMPORTANT RISK FACTORS OF RAISING PIGS TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THE PIGS FARM BUSINESS IN CHONBURI PROVINCE

The research objectives are to study the important risk factors of pig farmer businesses and to rate the importance of the risk factors of pig farmer businesses. The population and sample group consisted of 11 pig farming businesses registered with the Chonburi Provincial Livestock Office. This research employed a qualitative research method using a non-probabilistic random sampling method and a purposive sampling method to select the sample groups. The research instrument was an individual in-depth interview to analyze the content by using inductive interpretation and presenting it descriptively as a case study to align with the objectives.
The research results showed that the most important risk factors included: the amount of water sufficient for raising pigs; the breed of pigs; air circulation in the pig barn; fluctuations in prices of the food or raw materials used with the pigs; worker responsibility; quality of drugs and medical supplies for pigs; determination to comply with farm standards; and workers lack motivation to work. The high-risk factors included epidemics in pigs, the fluctuation of interest rates on loans from banks, and borrowing and credit from banks for business expansion. The moderately important risk factors included: the number of workers raising pigs does not match the demand of the pig barn; the mental state of the workers; the adjustment of pig food formula; power outages inside the pig barn; and the management of the smell of pig manure in the pig barn. Finally, the low-level risk factors included good agricultural practices for pig farms.
