The Procedure to Construct Thai Nationalism Ideology by Linguistic Strategies in Wannawat’s Historical Novels

Abstract
The research on “the procedure to construct Thai nationalism ideology by linguistic strategies in Wannawat’s historical novels” aimed to study the procedure to construct Thai nationalism ideology by linguistic strategies in two of Wannawat’s
historical novels including Kha Bodin and Neung Dao Fah Diew using critical discourse analysis theory according to Norman Fairclough’s linguistic conception. The results indicated that Wannawat’s historical novels had two types of procedure to construct Thai nationalism ideology by linguistic strategies including 1) intertextuality analysis which found that Wannawat’s historical novels had discursive method restated phrases, and hypothesis that related to other types of text in order to illustrate the relationship of connection between the historical novel and academic work and 2) linguistic text analysis which found that Wannawat’s historical novels had linguistic strategies to convey positive meanings about Thainess and Thai patriotism and linguistic strategies to convey negative meanings about Thais as victims and the enemies were bad as well as had strategies to defend the person and historical period to make the deficient governance of the leaders in the past become reasonable. This Thai nationalism ideology was in line with the mainstream ideals in Thai society; therefore, Wannawat’s historical novels was accepted in Thai society
