THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN ENGLISH DATABASE FOR CREATIVE TOURISM ACTIVITIES IN DOI SA-KEN COMMUNITY, MUANG DISTRICT, CHIANG RAI PROVINCE

Abstract
Introduction: Doi Saken, a community in Chiang Rai a community developed as an urban forest in Chiang Rai, surrounded by rich natural resources and diverse plant species. It serves as a learning center and a recreational area and has been promoted as a creative learning city. However, general visitors and tourists still lack access to comprehensive information about the community, especially in English. Objective: This research aims to study and collect information of English database on local arts, culture, and tourism activities in Doi Saken, Mueang District, Chiang Rai Province; and evaluate user satisfaction with the English-language materials. Methods: A mixed-method approach was employed. In-depth interviews were conducted with 10 local experts to gather cultural and tourism-related data, which were then selected and compiled into an English-language database. A satisfaction survey was then distributed to 10 local experts, 10 community-related officials, 30 Thai tourists, and 50 international tourists. Results: The community is conveniently located near the city and has been continuously promoted in Thai by the Chiang Rai Municipality. However, both Thai and international tourists seeking nature and cultural experiences still lack access to detailed information about the community’s locations and activities. After compiling and selecting creative tourism activities, a small brochure with a QR code linking to community information was developed. The overall satisfaction score was high, with a mean of X̅ = 4.68 (S.D. = 0.62). Satisfaction was broken down into: language quality X̅ = 4.66 (S.D. = 0.65), content quality X̅ = 4.67 (S.D. = 0.62), and usability X̅ = 4.69 (S.D. = 0.58). Conclusion: The development of an English-language database is a key tool for promoting Doi Saken’s tourism to international visitors. It provides essential information about local attractions and activities, helping the community grow in tourism and contributing to its economic development.
